Along with traditional air conditioning (AC) systems, our team also has expertise in providing ductless AC systems for residential clients throughout the Central Valley and Central Coast areas.
Also known as “mini-splits” or “zoned heating and cooling systems,” ductless AC units operate like a conventional AC system but, as the name suggests, without ductwork.
Instead of distributing air throughout the home from one centralized unit, ductless AC systems distribute air directly into the room they need to cool. This means that, typically, ductless systems have smaller individual AC units installed in each separate room that needs climate control. For residential homes, it usually takes roughly four ductless units to provide the same cooling as one outside condenser unit.
While ductless AC units are sometimes designed only for cooling, most mini splits can also operate as a heat pump, allowing you to both cool and heat rooms as needed.
While ductless systems aren’t the right fit for every home, they can be significantly less costly and, under the right circumstances, an excellent climate control solution.
In particular, ductless systems are ideal for situations where a single unit in your home needs heating and cooling, including for:
Many homeowners are hesitant to install ductless systems because they have doubts about the heating and cooling efficiency compared to central air, but, in reality, ductless AC can often actually outperform traditional HVAC. Mini-split systems range from about 15-38 on the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating, which is 25-50 percent less than the average central HVAC system.
